Field notes
Keeping a weekly setup sheet when markets go quiet
Low-volatility weeks are when rule drift sneaks in. A simple sheet format keeps discretionary traders from inventing urgency.
Quiet tape tempts activity. Traders shorten stops, invent breakouts from shallow coils, or open a second market they barely follow. In Weekly Setup Review sessions we treat stillness as data: if no sheet meets the checklist, the correct trade count for the week may be zero.
What we ask you to bring
- Up to three ideas with structure already marked
- Written invalidation and risk unit
- A note on session times you will actually watch
Ideas without invalidation are returned for completion rather than debated mid-call. That boundary frustrates some regulars at first; most later admit it blocked their worst mid-week improvisations.
A mild truth
Sheets do not create volatility. They only stop boredom from wearing a trader’s costume. That distinction is part of the technical analysis training culture we keep at the desk in The Sisters.
